testosterone has it’s good and bad days
Posted in Uncategorized on December 15, 2009| 1 Comment »
It was -4 degrees fahrenheit Monday, and since the plumbing store was closed, Steve thought it would be an awesome opportunity to go to his 30 acres and burn some wood, also known as a ‘slash pile burn”. This is totally a testosterone thing, because to me it was totally miserable..
Steve said that was the best”only” 3 hours we were out there. After a long silence I launched into my philosophy about testosterone thing, and he agreed it was a ‘guy thing’. The worst time I have ever had was cross country skiing when I trusted the other person that it would be a good virgin launch to my c/c skiing career. It was awful too, I was never so cold and dehydrated in my life. I sat in the tub afterwards and told him to leave (my ex husband after the break up) and I just drank tons and tons of water which isn’t easy shivering.
Anyway, I won’t give myself a rotator cuff injury patting myself on the back for volunteering to go with Steve so he didn’t die in the wilderness, just because he couldn’t find any male buddies to go with him.
After all, he came out to reroof my garage a year ago, and this time to put in a shower so I could get some renters. All I had to do was freeze my ass off and sit in a car while it got dark and I watched the snow. I was too frozen to pat myself on the back.
Let me tell you guys, it was really awful. I brought my hot water bottle from boots, but it wasn’t big enough. we got there at 2:30 and it got dark by 4 and started to snow. I soon realized me sitting in the car and reading my Peter Ackroyd book on London wasn’t going to work.
Steve mentioned something minor and foolish, like he had already fallen and he could hit his head on a rock and I wouldn’t know it if I sat in the car. I couldn’t argue with his philosophy. The car was getting really cold and walking around with my purse and earrings from Churchill Square seemed a good idea. The snow was slimy and the hill was steep but it was warm the fire, which was on a steep incline and I kept turning like a chicken on a spit to stay warm.
I hung my purse on a tree when I went back to the car for some damned thing. I have since given him my old bicycle horn with the squeezie ball end because that I can hear from the car. I realized something like that movie could easily take place, I am no fool ya know, where people creep up on a car, distract the passenger, jump in and kill her. I wasn’t sure if this would be the road in the middle of nowhere at -4 degrees-did I mention that it was -4 degrees and nobody was around to hear me no matter how loud I screamed, except Steve, and I screamed when I almost fell a few times, so he wouldn’t know. I didn’t just get off the boat ya know with the crime scene in a car in winter.
Anyway, we survived and he was invigorated enough to come home and start baking supper and potato bread from scratch and stay until 3 am, I fell asleep at about 9, totally not an Eskimo, not even close.
He is an awesome friend. I have to admit the scenery was beautiful.

hey friends, I spend a busy week, sorry I was gone. Hurt my knee carrying the neighbor’s ton-o-food box from the foodbank, wow! what a foodbank. Then I qualified for some since I am still looking for temp job here til I leave for UK. Our car was blessed with Christmas food! I had enough to feed my friend Steve, who drove in from Los Angeles to visit and help me fix up the house. I was so glad we could cook and make the home smell wonderful as he worked his ass off doing remodels and repairs and I recycled out into the snowbanks..
Radio travel show yesterday was Christmas in Wales, what a treat, I loved it. I heard Paul McCartney was on X Factor and Simon told him he wasn’t eliminated yet, he made it to the next round, ha ha, what a
swimming laps in the summertime

This is my pool, the amazing Horace Mann pool, one of the few outdoor pools left in this state where one can actually swim laps and not get a toy thrown at them in a waterpark. Tom Thorson painted this and I bought it from him years ago, it measures 30 inches by 36 inches. If you look closely in the waters, you can see swimmers bobbing about and coming up to the surface. I love it because I always have to stop and look for swimmers. The clouds are doing laps, and the beautiful sacred Black Hills are in the background. This is how they look..Tom is a fine painter. Imagine getting out of breath and I could hang at the far end and have that view while I waited to do more laps. One summer Brookie and I swam 25 miles by adding our laps up that summer, and won a tee shirt saying We Swam 25 Miles! I am wondering if I will bring that T shirt with me to UK. Or if I can take the painting..if it doesn’t sell, can a person, like they do in the movies, actually roll up an oil on canvas and then stash it in the wall, or in this case, in a suitcase bound for England??
Raffi and I looking for migrating cranes

I let the cats out while I made coffee, to see how far they got in the snow..Hendrix came right back, but Raphael was looking all over and when I listened, I could hear cranes in their formations as they fly south and that was what the cat was looking for, they were above the clouds,a nd when I came back with my camera to take a picture of Raffi, he was ready to come in, but this is where he sat, looking for the birds..sweet!
Songs about the Christmas tree

I used to do almost half a radio show about Christmas trees on the radio show. I would do Christmas music all of December, and listeners would tape it and listen to it in their car radios on their drives to family for the holidays.
I am still working like maybe half an army that takes alot of breaks, clearing out this home of 35 years. I got some Alleve so my shoulders from lifting and knees from climbing basement to attic and back to basement with laundry and outside with loads and loads of recycling and garbage and blankets for the animal shelter are moved around.
I have a festive fire outside in my firepit as I burn papers I should be shredding, but I gave away my shredder awhile back. Since it is 3 degrees Fahrenheit outside, and no wind yesterday and snowing, it is a merry proceeding, and I can have many thoughts as prayers if I look at this with faith and progress and thankfulness for having this roof over my head all these years.
another day of wintery beauty

or is it winterish beauty? or is it just plain autumn? I should get the Christmas lights on that carport. I took a picture later this afternoon and you can see my kitchen window view of that beautiful Sacred Black Hill, a line of them runs thru town and I live a half block from the park. There was a mountain lion other side of the park awhile back, not a half mile away-
I had 2 friends in my day today-Bob Miller, a fellow DJ and artist. He says I can roll up his batiks and reframe then in UK. My neighbor Phil came by too to get his speakers out of my attic so I can get some room up there. The cats were glad to see Phil who helped watch them and fed them the month I was in UK.
I am reading some Thomas Moore today (Care of the Soul). I liked the quote,”opening to another society or another individual-they are two levels of culture-we die a little death in relation to what has become familiar. But those deaths create new openings to new life.”

This beautiful picture is taken from my attic window, soon to be my bedroom. I worked hard on phone yesterday to make connections for my new adventures, walked to banks, cleaned out (started) to clean 3 rooms and tossed into garbage for pick up today. Before my home is changed, I am taking the day off watching snow and enjoying the beauty. I need to put up the tree tonite. I need some Christmas lights. Merry Christmas!!(for picture of snow covered park at end of my street, scroll down to earlier post).

I have to admit that I am going to miss the sleepovers when Carol Channing came over for her vacations in the Black Hills. These were wonderful times! Cody and his Mum Diney Lou were her favorites of all my friends…good old days, shedding a tear!
