The rain stopped and it was our second time to Highgate Cemetery. The first year I went it was late and the park was closing. It was a hike up a steep hill and through a big park where families used to picnic and play and spend the Sunday with their loved ones. The circle of Lebanon is impressive, yet my children Russ and Brooke’s Great Grandmother Noni planted a tree above her future grave also because she didn’t like the thought of spending eternity in the bright sunlight. Stop at The Tate where celebrations included children making puppets, jumping skeletons and listening to Spooky stories.
Returned to Brighton and groups of people pasty faced green and white and stumbling about truly looking like they had emerged from the cemetery, one poor ex-policeman was having trouble standing up on this new venture.
Smaller kelpies ran the neighborhood when we came home. I used to play the Jethro Tull song about kelpies on my Halloween radio show, also Sinatra’s come fly with me, and Ella sang Bewitched, bothered and bewildered, Tony Bennett sang Old Devil Moon. Halloween in London and UK is so fun. I hope I am here for many more. Already the Christmas decorations are above the streets in Brighton. I was here for Christmas 2 years ago, I loved it but I was so impressed by the New Years celebrations, I am still talking about how wonderful London celebrates bringing in the new year, and the fireworks on the Thames.
Today is All Saints Day, tomorrow All Souls Day, then soon Guy Fawkes day. Nothing could surpass Brooke and my trip to and from Lourdes on All Saints and All Souls Day, the latter of which is when we returned to Toulousse flat via train and saw all the French graveyards full of fresh flowers. That experience can not be surpassed because the whole trip was unexpected until the last moments.
It is raining harder today and when we walk to the seafront to see the gales it will be great. We cancelled the trip to Pembroke in the rented car until another day. I adore public transportation, reminds me of my life in Chicago. I love to people watch and see the holiday decorations while somebody else drives. I had many many treats on Halloween. God Bless American and the UK and viva la history.
