I am so happy here, it feels like home after being here so many times and seeing the ocean is so peaceful. I had some jetlag but still I managed to have some fish and chips within hours of my arrival.
I emptied out my suitcase as promised til the last moments, and found out I needed more skirts and Csaba helped me shop yesterday and find what I needed. Plus I love Boots their drugstore chain, and I don’t even remember my exotic bubble baths I bought, but some great body butter in bergamot. The mattress and russ’s apt. is on the floor by my request and I have my nest on the floor of radios ( I found some great stations and a nice concert this weekend), my iPod, chocolate and water, books and magazines and Csaba has fresh flowers about the house and cooks so well, I am so thrilled to be here even the toast is dancing and wonderful each morning. I am at Russ’s office answering some emails.
We are on a path from office to office to find out how I can work here, I have some interviews and nobody seems to have quite the black and white list of what I have to do to stay here. With 37 years experience as a nurse, A grades, and all that energy from swimming laps in the pools pictured in the blog, I am raring to go.
Private parties have responded to the ad in the magazine, The Lady, and I am over the moon to find the big world beyond the Dakotas, where there is no beauty and excitement to life, it is like the windows have gotten dirty and I cannot see the beauty of daily life. I need a change. The beauty is all around, but tired of being alone and no opportunities and family life.
We will jump into Halloween festivities and I am getting organized. Yesterday was my first full day here, and we got up at 9am to be at a community information place, walked all day and enjoyed ourselves, then by 4 my legs hurt and I remembered to listen to my body, even tho my mind was still dancing.
The flight over was easy coming from Detroit instead of Minneapolis, it took about 3 hours off the time, and that made a big difference to be landing in 2 hours instead of waiting 5 more hours. I stood for 2 solid hours in a winding line at Heathrow to go thru customs. Good thing I had my iPod, music helped. I sat by a lovely couple on the airplane, out of Detroit, Jerry had just gone to his high school anniversary at the same high school I went to in Elmhurst, Illinois! We couldn’t believe it. We knew the town and landmarks and old neighborhoods. He lived on Hawthorne Street by Lincoln School. I told him I got my first kiss ever in the Lincoln school parking lot, so I knew it well.
Their daughter was from Chicago but business took her to London, she had to stay in a motel before she was legal, nobody could rent to her. At least I have many places I can stay. I am ready to stay. I have arranged things to go well either way. Now I just have to find out how to do it legal. This is no small task, going office to office, but we are getting there. Time to read some emails from ads in London newspapers and to talk Russ into going for lunch. He is busy with work, but I know the town well enough to wander about and enjoy it all, and people watch. I got some free coffees today from some Cafe Nero coffee cards I had saved and were punched and ready to get my free one. We stood in line an hour and a half and the coffee was great and we could see the sea 2 blocks down. God Bless us all. So much beauty in this world. I hadn’t had a vacation in 18 months, this is heaven.
Always be aware of how the employer treats it’s employees. In perspective it is great to be here.
